A Speck of Dust

Introductory post by 666

Foreword: Solitaire requested me to write an opening post on this blog. Herein I shall attempt to explain one statement from which I derive immense strength.

‘Would not a speck of dust so close to the eye blot out the entire glory of the world’

This happens to be a very profound statement. It has essentially two parts – speck of dust and glory of the world. Each part warrants a detailed discourse. Lets look at the first part

Speck of dust – The figurative referencing here is very interesting. A speck of dust is mostly some cause which leads to the blinding of a person’s vision. He or she becomes so focused on a particular thing that the environs are completely ignored. Specific examples could be money, sexual desire, ego and another human. When all one wants is money, the smell of rain on parched earth does not appeal. When lust descends, the innocent smile of a baby does not appeal. When I, me, myself pervades, the torn blouses of destitute rural women evoke only grimaces. Beware friends, from these specks of dust. Each one of us has them. Introspect and figure out what, and please make an effort to wash them out.

Glory of the World – Ahh doesn’t it sound grand. The wisdom of Hindu scriptures, the music of Pink Floyd, the movies of Spielberg, the writings of Tolkien, the paintings of Van Gogh, the circumnavigation of Magellan, the planets in the universe, the ecstasy of adventure sports, the records in the Guinness Book all are glories of the world. Go seek them. My friends, don’t let those specks of dust efface out these glories of the world. Carpe Diem mate!
